Mayor Barbara A. Wallace is a 40-year township resident who spent decades volunteering to improve the quality of life in our community.
Her long and accomplished record of public service was fueled by a passion to provide young people with access to quality education as well as to recreational opportunities, which she put into practice in Washington Township. A former representative and director of constituent relations and intergovernmental affairs, Mayor Wallace has helped countless South Jersey residents navigate state and federal government and ensured their problems were resolved and questions and concerns received the attention they deserved.
She also has significant private sector experience, having served eight years as the vice president of administration at Rutgers Casualty Insurance Co., where as manager and director of internal company procedures and operations she was involved in all hiring, salary and benefits' decisions, and in creating strategies to control the bottom line.
She is a founding member of the Washington Township Education Foundation and charter member of the townships Rotary Breakfast Club. She also is a founding member of the Wedgwood Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization. Mayor Wallace has officiated high school field hockey, softball and gymnastics.
Mayor Wallace is married to retired New Jersey Supreme Court Associate Justice John E. Wallace Jr. They have raised five children in Washington Township and have four grandchildren.
